Our Training

Spring/Summer Training Focus

From mid-March through August, sessions run 2–3 days per week (off the week of July 4). Athletes are grouped by birth year and/or current ability, so every skater is challenged appropriately. The curriculum is progression-based: we build fundamentals, layer advanced mechanics, and finish with game-transfer reps that demand reads, speed, and decision-making.

Shooting & Scoring

We develop a complete shooter across the snapshot, wrist shot, slap shot, and backhand—teaching the technique and the “why” behind each choice.

  • Mechanics: hand positioning and separation, bottom-hand slide, activating stick flex, weight transfer, hip-shoulder separation, blade path, and controlled follow-through.
  • Footwork & release: shooting in stride, off either foot, catch-and-release, quick-release under pressure, and finishing from multiple body positions and angles.
  • Shot selection: when to change release point, elevate, shoot for sticks or pads, and create second chances.
  • Outcomes: more power with less effort, faster release, improved accuracy, and confidence to score in varied game situations.

Skating & Dynamic Edge Work

Skating drives modern hockey. We target balance, posture, edge control, and speed so players can separate from pressure and “slow the game down.”

  • Overspeed progressions (safely introducing higher tempos to improve stride turnover and control).
  • Crossovers & acceleration (forward/backward, tight-turn exits, crossover starts).
  • Edgework & transitions (inside/outside edge loading, mohawks, punch turns, forward↔backward pivots).
  • Technical skating (ankle flexion, knee bend, hip alignment, upper-body counter-rotation).
  • Stride efficiency & recovery (glide phase, under-body push, quick recovery for repeatable speed).
  • Outcomes: cleaner mechanics, better agility and balance, faster first three steps, and true separation speed.

Puck Skills, Deception & Hockey IQ

We train players to own the puck within a five-foot radius—under pressure and at game pace.

  • Stick-handling & protection: top-hand dexterity, bottom-hand glide, reach extension, body positioning, and shoulder checks before reception.
  • Deception & elusiveness: fakes, dekes, weight shifts, and handling through edges to change hands/lanes.
  • Passing & touch: firm forehand/backhand, receive-to-shoot, bump passes, area passes in motion.
  • PEP (Power Edge Pro) & position-specific work: small-space patterns that connect hands, feet, and edges, plus role-specific reps for forwards and defense.
  • Outcomes: stronger puck control in tight spaces, better reads under pressure, and more consistent playmaking at speed.

How We Measure Progress

Success is defined by visible advancement in each skill set. Coaches give targeted feedback during reps, track progression benchmarks across the season, and design competitive drills that reveal real improvements—so players (and parents) can see and feel the difference.

We look forward to training with you and helping your player take the next step in shooting, dynamic edge work, skating, and stick-handling.
